I was talking to a dear friend the other day and I can tell you that when I'm her age, I want to look like her. She makes no secret of the fact that over the years she has had several small procedures done to her face to make it look younger. Her secret is to wear her refreshed face with pride and a glowing posture. Because no matter what aesthetic surgery you have, no matter how professional the result, the most important thing is that you love and respect yourself afterwards. Your confidence will be reflected in your appearance.

Everyone knows the saying that the eye is the mirror of the soul. It's a relatively elusive metaphor, because what exactly is the soul... Your eyes will undoubtedly show your age, your experiences, the pain you've experienced, and your joy. First impressions count for a lot, and if your eyes look tired, even if you get enough sleep, you may look older than your real age. If you're looking to refresh your face, one of the quickest and most visible solutions is to make your eyes look younger.

Why do eyes age so quickly?

The skin around your eyes is the thinnest on your body. It's funny, but the "thick skin on your face" is the winner in this story, because the thinner, more translucent, more sensitive skin you have, the faster you'll start to show signs of ageing. Fine wrinkles first appear around the eyes, and dark circles under the eyes can be a nuisance as early as 20 years old in those where genetic
code is responsible.

What exactly are your options?

Choose a procedure that is targeted to the problem. There is plenty to choose from, and not just the scalpel
is not the only option.

Cosmetic procedures

In our previous article, we looked at ways to rejuvenate without surgery. Of course, not all
not all problems can be avoided if you want a beautiful result... Let's look at the options.

Eyebrow lift

If you are looking to correct a small degree of eyebrow sagging, a natural result can be obtained by lifting the eyebrows through a small incision made in the scalp. It can be used alone or in combination with blepharoplasty, especially when the hidden eyelid is caused by drooping eyebrows or when a more "twitchy" or "foxy" look is desired. During a brow lift, the doctor makes small incisions in specific areas of the scalp and pulls back the skin. This allows the forehead and eyebrow area to be pulled upwards to regain the firmness that time and gravity have taken away. Any excess fat can be removed by suction if necessary. The stitches are covered by the hair so that they heal invisibly.

Eyelid surgery

When the signs of ageing are more pronounced and you're no longer resistant to the scalpel, eyelid surgery can be performed.
surgical procedures on the eyelids:

Upper blepharoplasty: the "cure" for drooping, toneless, droopy upper eyelids

Lower blepharoplasty: for bulging bags under the eyes or excess skin on the lower eyelids
the eyelid, which can be used to remove under-eye blemishes.

What do you need to know about blepharoplasty?

Eyelid blepharoplasty is usually the first in a series of facial rejuvenation surgeries, the effect is spectacular, immediate and very long-lasting, up to 15-20 years before a follow-up procedure may be needed (as the ageing process does not stop).

There are basically two types of eyelid surgery, upper and lower blepharoplasty. It is relatively rare for both to be performed in the same operation. Most often, the upper eyelid is treated first and the lower eyelid months later to ensure a beautiful and symmetrical recovery.

Upper blepharoplasty:

The aim of the procedure is to correct drooping of the upper eyelid by removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid area, thus eliminating wrinkling of the upper eyelid and sagging of the skin. The surgery is performed without anaesthesia, under local anaesthesia, in about 40 minutes and the sutures are almost invisible as the surgeon makes the incisions in a hidden place, in the fold-over crease above the eyelid. The result is a more open, youthful look.

Lower blepharoplasty:

Bags under the eyes can be caused by individual conformation, but often appear as a result of age. As the skin of the eyelid stretches, the fatty tissue bulges forward due to loss of tone. A good solution is lower blepharoplasty, where the bags disappear and the look is much more refreshed. The incision is made either under the eyelid or on the inner side of the eyelid.

The lower blepharoplasty is riskier, we choose a very competent doctor who often performs this type of surgery, who has a very skilled hand and can show us many references similar to our case at the first consultation.

Pre-operative steps:

Before the surgery, you will need to attend a plastic surgery consultation where you will be told that you will be
and what results you can expect.

What are the pros and cons of eyelid surgery?

Advantages

  • The face will look younger and more refreshed.
  • The face becomes easier to apply make-up.
  • Most eyelid surgeries take less than an hour.
  • Most eyelid surgeries can be done under local anaesthesia or sedation.
  • Fast recovery: heals in 1-2 weeks. The final shape takes 3-5 months as the incision softens and fades.
  • As incisions are made in the folds of the incision, they are minimally visible after healing.
  • It can be repeated without another surgical scar.
  • There are generally few complications and eyelid surgery is not a high-risk procedure.

Disadvantages, potential risks

  • As with other operations, eyelid surgery can result in minor haemorrhages, which can cause pain and possibly a loss of visual acuity.
  • There may be inflammation of the conjunctiva, which quickly improves with a chamomile poultice or eye drops.
  • An additional risk is that the scar may heal slowly, possibly unesthetically.
  • Diabetes or high blood pressure may be a reason for exclusion, as these conditions can compromise uncomplicated wound healing.
  • Although the results of surgery are permanent, it may need to be repeated after 10-15 years as the ageing process progresses.
  • In extremely rare cases, the eye muscles may be damaged.
  • If too much skin is removed due to medical error, the procedure may affect the ability to close the eye completely.

Healing

Both the surgery and the recovery are completely painless. It is advisable to ice the area for the first day or two. Water should not enter the scars until the sutures are removed (days 7-8).

A few days rest at home is recommended, when all activities that strain the eyes should be avoided. Driving should be avoided for 1 week as a plaster will cover the eyelid and may obstruct vision. After 1-2 weeks you can return to work. Avoid all sports activities for 3-4 weeks. The surgical scars should not be exposed to UV light for 6 months, i.e. avoid sunbathing and tanning beds, and use sunscreen in shady weather.

The scar will fade and become undetectable in a few months. 2 months in pictures:

How much does a blepharoplasty cost?

Prices vary from individual to individual, but generally speaking, it is between around £150-300,000, or if the procedure is performed on the bottom and top, the combined surgery can cost between £300-400,000.
